Normally, the side effects are bruising and bleeding can be noticed
after the removal of the needle. Psychological effects cause dizziness
as well as fainting. These are some of the side effects that are
identical to that a person would experience even if his blood work is
drawn for examination. Acupuncture exhibits serious side effects such
as infection. The needles that are pierced into the skin have all the
potential to introduce bacteria and cause infection in the body. The
sterilization process should be given due importance and the process
should be done without fail so that the needles are not contaminated.
Improperly sterilized needles transmit HIV/AIDS. They also bring deadly
diseases such as encephalopathy and hepatitis. Under very rare
conditions, nerve damage occurs owing to a nerve being pierced while
inserting an acupuncture needle. Hence, inserting the needle into the
lung also causes seriousness as air escapes out of the lungs and gets
trapped causing the lungs to collapse. The potential of causing side
effects is rare and curable, but occasionally, it turns to be serious
and harmful. There are chances that kidney or the sac enveloping the
heart is punctured leading to stroke. Hence, insertion of needle should
be done properly so that it does not trouble some sensitive organs.
